Bible reference:
Matthew 28:5-6
“But the angel said to the woman, 'Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said.'"
Reflection:
This painting is called “Easter Joy!” because all heaven and earth rejoices at the resurrection of Jesus. The followers of Jesus were full of joy that Jesus had risen from the dead on the third day after his death, as he said he would. Between the time of Jesus’ resurrection and the time he finally returned to his Father in heaven, the Ascension, Jesus appeared to many people. By his resurrection, Jesus conquered death and if we too, believe, then we too will be raised from the dead on the last day and will enjoy eternal life with God in heaven.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank you for suffering your terrible and painful death and thank you for your glorious resurrection. You are indeed the redeemer and saviour of the world. I pray that you will turn my heart ever more fully towards you, that you will bless those who are seeking you and lead them in the right paths and that you will bring us all to eternal happiness in heaven when we die. Amen.
